The Therapy Department at Sanilac Medical Care Facility is prepared to provide you or your loved one with competent and highly skilled services related to a variety of circumstances. Our facility employs skilled Occupational, Physical, and Speech therapists and assistants trained in assessment and treatment of medical conditions affecting an individual’s ability to perform a multitude of activities.

Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy (ST) works with residents to improve communication, cognition, voice, and/or chewing/swallowing function. The ST can treat residents and caregivers to improve ability to consume foods and liquids safely and recommend exercises to complete for increased understanding, expression, and thinking.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on performance of daily tasks, such as basic care (hygiene, toileting, dressing) as well as more complex activities (cooking, cleaning, laundry). Additionally, OT addresses difficulties with sitting balance, wheelchair positioning & use, and range of motion deficits related to the upper extremities.

Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy (PT) addresses mobility issues, for example standing, transferring, and walking. PT will often provide the resident with an assistive device to aide with movement, such as a cane or walker. Range of motion deficits in the lower body will also be addressed by PT, recommending exercises and braces as needed.
